- Dalmatia – Split
Brač is the big island just across from Split and the highest of the Adriatic islands, topped by Vidova Gora at 778 m.
It is famous for its white limestone, quarried for centuries and used in buildings around the Adriatic, including Diocletian's Palace in Split. Most visitors know it for Zlatni Rat near Bol, a long pebble beach that juts into the sea and changes shape with the wind and currents. Away from the beach, Brač has stone villages, olive groves and a hermitage built into a cliff.

Tours and getting around
Day trips from Brač
Boat trips from Bol and Supetar go to Hvar, the Pakleni islands and the coves of Brač's south coast, and speedboat tours reach the Blue Cave on Biševo. Split is an easy day trip by ferry. On the island, there are jeep tours, olive oil tastings and guided hikes to the Blaca Hermitage and Dragon's Cave above Murvica.
A car is the easiest way to see the island, as its villages and beaches are spread out and the road between Supetar and Bol crosses the hills. Scooters are popular in Bol and Supetar. Renting a small boat lets you reach the quieter coves along the south coast.
