Dinara is the mountain that gave its name to the whole Dinaric Alps, and its summit, at 1,831 metres, is the highest point in Croatia.
It became a nature park in 2021. The mountain is wild and bare, with stony karst, high grassland, and summer pastures where shepherds once brought their flocks. There is little in the way of facilities, so this is a place for experienced hikers and anyone who loves wide, empty landscapes.

Day trips from Dinara
Very few organised tours come here. Mountain guides and hiking clubs from Split, Šibenik and Knin lead summit hikes, which is the safest way to go if you do not know the mountain.
You need a car to reach the trailheads. There are no rentals on the mountain, so bring hiking boots, a lot of water, sun protection and a warm layer.
Getting there
How to get to Dinara
Dinara is the high mountain on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, near Knin in inland Dalmatia, about an hour and a half by car from Split or Šibenik. Knin has a railway station and buses from the coast. The most common way up Croatia's highest peak starts from the village of Glavaš near Knin. Paths are long and rocky, there is no water on the way and facilities are basic, so plan well. Check opening hours, ticket prices and any road closures on the park's official website before you go, as they change with the season.
