Lastovo is a remote island south of Korčula, one of the farthest inhabited islands from the Croatian mainland.
Like Vis, it was a closed military area for decades, and it remains quiet and unspoilt, with no big hotels. The island and the many islets around it form the Lastovo Islands Nature Park. Lastovo town climbs a slope facing inland, away from the sea, its houses topped with tall, decorative chimneys, and the island keeps one of Croatia's oldest carnival traditions, the Lastovo Poklad.
Things to do
Don't miss in Lastovo
- Walk the stepped lanes of Lastovo town and look out for its chimneys, each one shaped differently.
- Climb to the fort above Lastovo town for views over the rooftops and the island.
- Swim in the bays around Skrivena Luka, Zaklopatica and Pasadur.
- Take a boat to the islets of the nature park, such as Saplun with its sandy beach.
- Look up at night; with so little light around, the stars are spectacular.
- Dive or snorkel in the clear water around the outer islets.

Tours and getting around
Day trips from Lastovo
Boat trips from Ubli, Pasadur and Lastovo town visit the islets of the nature park, with stops for swimming and lunch. Diving centres run trips to the reefs and walls around the archipelago. The island is also a favourite stop for sailors, with moorings in its bays.
You will want a car or scooter, as the island is hilly and buses are limited; you can bring a car on the ferry from Split. Renting a small boat is the best way to explore the islets and coves.
