Daily budget for Split
| Style | Per person a day | What that covers |
|---|---|---|
| Low | €45 to €65 | Bakery or market breakfast, ćevapi or a slice of pizza for lunch, a simple dinner, coffee, a free beach and free palace streets, walking everywhere |
| Mid-range | €100 to €150 | Café breakfast, a konoba lunch, dinner of two courses with wine, one or two tickets, a drink on the Riva, a city bus or two |
| Higher | €200 and up | A tasting menu or MICHELIN-listed dinner, a catamaran day to Hvar (€50 return), a guided tour, taxis |
Our estimate per person per day, built from the prices on this page and typical 2026 menu prices for Split; restaurant prices run higher on the Riva and in July and August. It leaves out accommodation and flights. Budget for those separately.
The best free things to do in Split
- Diocletian's Palace: the streets and the Peristyle are free and open day and night. See our palace guide.
- The cellars' central passage: free; only the side halls are ticketed.
- Marjan: the steps to Vidilica, the pines and the chapels. See our Marjan hill guide.
- City beaches: Bačvice, Firule, Kašjuni, Bene and Žnjan. See our Split beach guide.
- Gregory of Nin: rub the statue's toe outside the Golden Gate.
- The markets: looking costs nothing at Pazar and Peškarija.
- Sunsets: the harbour wall at Matejuška, or the benches at Sustipan park.
How to save money in Split
- Food: bakery or market breakfast, ćevapi or pizza for lunch, and marenda where konobas still serve it. Eat a street or two back from the Riva.
- Ask about extras: fish is sold by the kilo, and some places add bread and a cover charge (kuver).
- Transport: walk; everything in the centre is within 15 minutes. From the airport, buses 37 and 38 are cheaper than the shuttle. See our airport transfer guide.
- Combined tickets: Salona with the Archaeological Museum, and the Meštrović Gallery with Kaštilac.
- Islands: walk onto the car ferry or catamaran rather than bringing a car. See our ferry guide.
- Cash: cards work in most places, but carry some euros for markets, small grills and parking meters.
